Who We Are

West Brookfield Historical Commission                                       September 2026

The presence of historic properties in West Brookfield greatly enhances the quality of our lives. They help establish our sense of place and define the character of our community. The West Brookfield Historical Commission is the town’s agency responsible for identifying, evaluating, and protecting the historic, architectural, and archaeological assets within the town. We are connected to The National Park Service through the Mass Historical Commission.

The Historical Commission maintains and updates an inventory of historic properties and sites in West Brookfield. The Inventory of historic homes is available to the public through the Massachusetts Historical Commission website.

The WB Historical Commission develops nominations for the listing of Historic Districts and individual properties for the National Historic Registry. This is an important preservation tool.

The Commission undertakes a wide variety of historic preservation projects, including the preservation and restoration of West Brookfield’s historic public cemeteries. We also offer an annual scholarship to our resident graduating seniors who are college bound with an interest in studying a variety of historic related disciplines.

We meet the first Monday every month in the Town Hall at 7:00 pm , September through June, and welcome residents as members or associate members who have an interest in preserving the historic character of our town.
