Biographies...
In the early years of our country's history, those who sought a home here lived an adventurous life. We rank among the older communities of this country. Below are biographies and histories related to the early inhabitants of then Brookfield, now West Brookfield. We have also included the biographies of some of our Civil War soldiers. West Brookfield is part of the original Quaboag Plantation which will celebrate its 350th birthday in 2010. As we prepare for the 350th Anniversary of Quaboag Plantation in 2010, we have gathered information on the original Planters for our website. We are putting the finishing touches on our new section "Quaboag Plantation, 1660". Our Historical Remembrance for each month for the next year will be an introduction to one of our original planters and to the Indians of King's Philip's War.
Along the Bay Path in this year of 1668 also traveled James Travis, a young married man of 23, his wife Mercy, aged 18, and their infant daughter Elizabeth, who was born in Gloucester on February 8, 1668.
